The first of two, District 3-5A showdowns is finally here as Canyon hosts Amarillo High in a battle of girls’ basketball state powers.  Both teams are undefeated on the season with 4-time defending state champion Canyon ranked no. 1 and Amarillo High ranked no. 4 in the state.

This is the second straight season the two teams have gone into district play ranked in the top ten in the state.  Last season, the teams split two district meetings before colliding in the Regional championship game in Snyder where the Lady Eagles won a thriller to continue down the road to their fourth-straight state title.

Other 3-5A girls games include Randall at Caprock, Palo Duro at Dumas and Plainview is at Hereford.

In other games tonight, Tascosa girls host Coronado while the Tascosa boys play at Estacado. The Palo Duro boys host Lubbock Trinity, Bushland girls and boys host Lubbock Cooper, River Road teams host Boys Ranch, and the Highland Park girls host Claude while the Hornets boys team is home against Friona.
