Mike Roden was born and raised right here in the Panhandle in Memphis. He began his radio career as a weekend DJ for KBGH-AM in Memphis during high school. After graduating in 1979, he also worked for several months at KCTX-AM in Childress before heading to West Texas State University in Canyon. In 1981, Mike returned to his roots to work at KLSR-FM in Memphis. He eventually became station’s General Manager for several years and it was during that time that he found his real passion in radio, high school sports. His first sports job was as the play-by-play announcer for the Memphis Cyclones in football and basketball. Mike moved to Amarillo in 1986 and began his KGNC career as a weekend DJ before the Talk Radio days. He moved to a full-time board operator position the following year before moving into the Sports Director’s position in 1989. It was that same year he also began doing color commentary and eventually play-by-play for local high school football, basketball, volleyball and baseball teams on the Amarillo Sports Network, which is now known as the Texas Panhandle Sports Network. Mike spends much of his time with his daughter Addison and son Avery. He is a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church.
