Tascosa boys and the Canyon girls won team titles on Saturday at the 67th Amarillo Relays at Dick Bivins Stadium.

Tascosa boys racked up 152 points to win by 24 points over second place Amarillo High. It was Tascosa’s seventh win in the last eight Amarillo Relays and its 55th victory in the last 58 regular season meets. Rebels' senior sprinter Josiah Macinnias and senior hurdler Corey Williams each won three events.

The Canyon girls were even more dominate with 154 points, which was 52 points better than runner-up Tascosa.

- In baseball, Amarillo High and Plainview remained tied at the top of the 3 5-A standings. The Sandies overcame a 5-run deficit to beat Canyon 10-7. Plainview beat Hereford 13-1 to keep pace with the Sandies. Randall remained in 3rd place with a 12-1 win over Caprock. Palo Duro moved into a tie with Canyon for 4th place with a 7-5 win over Dumas.

In 2 6-A, Tascosa fell at Permian 8-4. 1 4-A, Bushland won their district opener over Borger 12-0.

- It looked like the West Texas A&M softball team was going to have to settle for winning two of three in their LSC series with Midwestern State. WT won both games on Saturday but trailed 8-3 heading to the seventh inning on Sunday but the Lady Buffs scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 9-8 and get the 3-game sweep. They are now 26-6 overall and 11-4 in conference play.

- The WT baseball team took three of four games in their weekend series with Eastern New Mexico. The Buffaloes won the opener 2-1 on Friday, lost the first of two on Saturday 7-1 before the Buffs bounced back to win 3-1. WT then won the finale yesterday 6-4 to improve to 20-5 on the season and 3-1 in LSC play.

- It was a good weekend for both the Amarillo Venom and the Amarillo Bulls.

The Venom won on the road at Wichita 56-47 in a rematch of last season's CIF championship game, to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Bulls beat Odessa in OT on Friday and also beat the Jackalopes on Saturday in a shootout.

- In the first Elite Eight battle featuring two Southeastern Conference squads since 1986, No.-7 seed South Carolina trailed at halftime for the third time in the NCAA Tournament. However, the Gamecocks shut down the Florida Gators’ 3-point assault in the second half to beat 4th seed Florida 77-70. Sindarius Thornwell scored 10 of his game-high 26 points in the final seven minutes as South Carolina advances to the Final Four for the first time.

- Top seed North Carolina and 2nd seed Kentucky both hit big baskets in the final few seconds but the Tar Heels hit the last one on a Luke Maye buzzer beater as North Carolina won the South Region final in a 75-73 thriller. Maye finished with 17 points and the Tar Heels are headed back to the Final Four for an NCAA-record 20th time.

On Saturday, Gonzaga and Oregon punched their ticket to the Final Four. The West top seed Gonzaga defeated Xavier convincingly 83-59 while Oregon knocked off Midwest top seed Kansas 74-60. It's Gonzaga's first trip to the Final Four while Oregon hasn't been since 1939. The Bulldogs will meet South Carolina in one national semifinal on Saturday with the Ducks taking on North Carolina in the other semifinal.

- Number 2 seed Mississippi State upset top-seeded Baylor 94-85 in overtime yesterday to reach the Women's Final Four. They will be joined by fellow second seed Stanford, which knocked off top seed Notre Dame 76-75.

The other two women's Regional finals will be played tonight as UConn meets Oregon followed by South Carolina against Florida State.
