In a new poll, 37% of Californians say they've seriously considered leaving because of high housing costs. Texas doesn't have that problem. As a result, from 2010 to 2019, the last year census figures were available,  over 303,000 Californians migrated to Texas.

That means 34% of all new Texas residents are from California. In fact, Texas is the number one state Californians are migrating to.

Let's just hope Californians don't bring any of their crazy laws with them. The state is known for crazy rules, many of which would not fly here in Texas. Here are some glaring examples.

In Blythe, California you cannot wear cowboy boots unless you are actually a cowboy. It is illegal to wear cowboy boots if you cannot prove to the city clerk that you own at least two cows. To a Texan, the very thought of this is barbaric.

In California, women are prohibited from driving while wearing their housecoats, sometimes known as a nightdress. Females who disobey this law are subject to a hefty penalty. Here in Texas, not only is driving while wearing a housecoat legal but wearing your housecoat while shopping at Walmart is a time-honored tradition.

In Los Angeles, you can't hunt moths under street lamps. Here in Texas, moths will devour everything.  Hunting them anytime or any place is encouraged.

In California, animals are banned from mating publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship. I'll leave that one right there.

In California, it is illegal to operate a mousetrap without a hunting license.

In California, sunshine is guaranteed to the masses.  In Texas in the summer, shade is guaranteed to the masses.

In Prunedale, California, it is illegal to install two bathtubs in any one house. What would you expect in a town named "PRUNE-Dale?  At last check, there were no cities in Texas named Prunedale.

Of course, there are more controversial and political laws in California that would never fly in Texas.  For example, the state rewards people who turn in fellow citizens with guns. In Texas, we could probably pass a law rewarding people who turn in neighbors who DON'T own guns.

With 37 million people, Texas is not in danger of being overrun by Californians anytime soon. Fortunately, Texas is much more likely to change California than the other way around.
