.  The Rebels took control early when Adam Mendoza picked off a Frenship pass in the endzone and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown. Tascosa led 32-0 at halftime and coasted to their sixth win of the season against just one loss, and improved to 2-1 in District 2-6A.

There is a big District 3-5A doubleheader today at Dick Bivins Stadium. Amarillo High hosts Hereford beginning at 4:30 today, followed by Caprock and Palo Duro at 7:30. At Kimbrough Memorial Stadium, it’s Randall against Canyon.

- The West Texas A&M men’s soccer team came close but couldn’t pull off the upset over #18 St. Edwards, falling 1-0 yesterday in Austin.  WT had three chances in overtime, but were unable to find the goal as the five-game unbeaten streak came to an end for the Buffs.

 The Lady Buffs wrap-up the first half of Lone Star Conference play during Homecoming Weekend as they host the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday night at 6 p.m. followed by a Saturday afternoon matchup with Texas Woman’s with first serve set for 1 p.m. in Canyon.

- It’s homecoming for the WT football team Saturday as the Buffaloes host Adams State.  Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.

In the Big 12, Texas and Oklahoma collide in Dallas, Texas Tech is at West Virginia, TCU is at Kansas State and Baylor is at Oklahoma State.

- A federal appeals court has cleared the way for the NFL to impose a six-game suspension on Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott over domestic violence allegations in Ohio. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans granted the league's emergency request to set aside an injunction. It ordered a district court in Texas to dismiss Elliott's case. Further court appeals are still possible in the case.

-- The Chicago Cubs used a four-run inning against Washington's Max Scherzer and then held on for a wild 9-8 win over the Nationals in a thriller of a Game 5. And for the third year in a row, Chicago has reached the NL Championship Series. They trailed 4-1, then led 8-4 and 9-6, in a game that lasted more than 4 hours. The Cubs will play the Dodgers in the NLCS.

Tonight, the ALCS gets underway, with the Houston Astros host the New York Yankees.

-- Carson Wentz came up big in a huge game, throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns against one of the NFL's top defenses, and the Eagles beat the Panthers 28-23 on Thursday night to improve to an NFC-best 5-1. The Panthers are now 4-2.
