The Lady Raiders stayed perfect in the first round of district play with a road win over Plainview in three sets.

Amarillo High stayed one game back of Randall as the Lady Sandies swept Palo Duro.

In other 3-5A matches, Canyon downed Caprock in four sets and Dumas won over Hereford 3-1.

Elsewhere, Tascosa lost at Midland, Bushland rolled past Pampa, River Road defeated Friona but lost to Shallowater.  HP also beat Friona and lost to Shallowater in five sets.

- Expect a lot of points when Texas Tech is home for its Big 12 opener against 15th-ranked Oklahoma State. The Red Raiders and Cowboys are the Big 12's top two passing teams. Oklahoma State is trying to rebound from a home loss to TCU in its first league game last week. The Red Raiders are trying to improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2013, which was former quarterback Kliff Kingsbury's first season as their head coach.

- The Houston Astros know they'll begin their best-of-5 American League Division Series at home in Minute Maid Park. Carlos Correa, Brian McCann and Cameron Maybin had three RBIs each and Dallas Keuchel allowed one earned run and five hits in six innings as the Astros routed the Texas Rangers 14-3 to clinch no worse than the second-best record in the AL. The loss also eliminated the Rangers from the playoff race.

- With a win on Tuesday night over the Tampa Bay Rays, the New York Yankees clinched home-field advantage in next week's American League Wild Card Game.

Los Angeles beat the San Diego Padres 9-2 on Tuesday night to clinch home-field advantage throughout the National League playoffs.

- Federal charges brought in New York against assistant college basketball coaches for bribes and kickbacks could change the landscape of the sport. The initial charges could be just the tip of the iceberg. More programs and coaches could be entangled as the FBI digs deeper, and schools where the arrested coaches previously worked could face scrutiny.
