UIL Realignment Brings Changes for Local Schools and Fans

The University Interscholastic League's biennial realignment of districts on Thursday provided some good news and some bad news for local schools and their fans. 

Tascosa had some of its travel burden lifted with the removal of San Angelo Central from the District 2-6A alignment. Central was sent to a district of schools in the Metroplex instead. The rest of 2-6A will remain the same in football, basketball and volleyball with Midland High, Midland Lee, Odessa High, Odessa Permian and Wofforth Frenship joining Tascosa.

As expected, Abilene Cooper will be joining schools from Amarillo and Lubbock in what will be 2-5A Division 1 in football. It will consist of Amarillo High, Caprock, Palo Duro, Lubbock  High, Monterey and Coronado in addition to Abilene Cooper.

The Randall High football team is definitely in for some travel the next two years.  The Raiders will join Plainview, Lubbock Cooper, Abilene Wylie, Wichita Falls High and Wichita Falls Rider in District 3-5A Division 2 football.

In basketball and volleyball, District 3-5A will include Amarillo High, Caprock, Palo Duro, Randall, Lubbock High, Coronado, Monterey, Lubbock Cooper and Plainview.

Canyon High School will compete in District 3-4A Division 1 in football. It will be just a four team district along with Pampa, Dumas and Hereford.

Canyon will also be in District 3-4A for basketball and volleyball but most of the other schools will be different. Canyon and Hereford will join Levelland, Estacado and Lamesa for those sports.

Bushland landed in District 2-3A Division 1 in football  with River Road, Littlefield, Muleshoe, Shallowater and Slaton.

Bushland and River Road will play in District 1-3A in basketball along with Canadian, Dimmitt, Friona, Muleshoe, Spearman and Tulia.

The District 1-3A volleyball lineup has Bushland, River Road, Dimmitt, Friona and Tulia.

Highland Park moved from Class 3A to 2A.  The Hornets football team will compete in District 1-2A Division 1 with Boys Ranch, Panhandle, Sanford-Fritch, Stinnett West Texas and Sunray.

In basketball, Highland Park will play in District 2-2A with Clarendon, Memphis, Panhandle, Wellington and Wheeler.

The volleyball team from Highland Park will compete in District 4-2A with Memphis, Olton, Sanford-Fritch, Stinnett West Texas, Fort Elliott, Miami and Wildorado.
