Sandies, Eagles Open Season with Wins in High School Football
The high school football season kicked off with two high scoring matchups Thursday night that both made history.
The Amarillo Sandies gave new head coach Chad Dunnam a win in his first game but it wasn’t easy. The Sandies outlasted Frenship 48-41 at Dick Bivins Stadium.
The Canyon Eagles 44-21 win over Palo Duro was the 500th win in the school’s history.
Tonight, more local teams start the new season. Tascosa opens at home against Abilene High in the Game of the Week on Newstalk 940AM-KIXZ.
In other games, Randall travels to Midland High, Caprock is at Hereford, Bushland hosts Childress, River Road is at Abernathy, Highland Park is at home against Booker.
Claude won its first-ever 6-man game, 57-6 over Patton Springs on Thursday. In Lubbock, Monterey opened with a 23-11 loss to Odessa High.
