Amarillo High and Caprock kicked off the District 3-5A football race last night in the rain at Dick Bivins Stadium.

With the wet weather, both teams ran the ball effectively but it was the Sandies who were the more opportunistic with their chances and Amarillo High beat Caprock 42-20.
Sandies QB Nathan Betts ran for 121 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also threw a TD pass. Rhett Maynard ran for 146 yards as Amarillo High won its first game of the season. On Defense, Brady Barthelemy recovered a fumble and returned it 58 yards for a score.
Caprock's Kaleb King had a huge game with 211 yards rushing while QB Tarik Williams had 139 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Longhorns fell to 2-2 on the year.
 - There was one other game around the area, as Nazareth suffered its first loss of the season, falling to defending state champion Borden County 58-8.
- Tonight the schedule has Tascosa hosting Odessa HIgh, Palo Duro at Plainview , Randall is home against Dumas (KIXZ), Canyon is at Hereford, Bushland is at Pampa, River Road is at Sanford-Fritch and HIghland Park is at Gruver.
 - Shane Buechele threw for 171 yards and a score and Texas opened Big 12 play by beating Iowa State 17-7. Chris Warren III added a rushing TD for the Longhorns, who improved evened their record at 2-2. Warren had an 11-yard touchdown run and Toneil Carter caught a 22-yard TD pass from Buechele to give Texas a 14-0 halftime lead its defense made stand up.
 - Aaron Rodgers threw four touchdown passes, and the Packers converted three turnovers into scores in a 35-14 victory over the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. Green Bay improved to 3-1 on the season while the Bears are 1-3.
 - The Amarillo Bulls are at home this weekend.  The Bulls host the Lone Star Brahmahs tonight and tomorrow night at the Civic Center. The Bulls are off to a 3-2 start to the season.
- The WT men's soccer team won a big conference match at LCU yesterday 2-1.
The women's team is in action tonight at Angelo State.
The WT volleyball is also on the road at Western New Mexico.
 - Major league batting leader Jose Altuve had three of Houston's 17 hits, Carlos Correa had four and the Astros chased Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez in the second inning to win 12-2. The loss kept Boston from clinching outright the first back-to-back AL East championships in franchise history.
 - The Oakland Athletics beat the Texas Rangers 4-1.
