I will be the first to admit that I have never heard of Montana style barbecue. I didn't know  that was even a thing. I mean this is Texas. We have got some of the best barbecue ever. Right here from our very own state of Texas. So this is going to be interesting.

So why is Montana barbecue a thing here? So I got an invite to head over to Sixth Street and try some. We were heading to 406 Cook Shack - 2813 6th Ave. I went in with an open mind.

I love food. I am not from Texas but I have been here long enough to know there are some things you do not mess with. We love our Whataburger. We love our Taco Villa. We definitely love our Allsup's burritos. Oh and we love our barbecue.

I saw this review on Facebook from James:

Just ate at 406 Cook Shack on 6th street. I’m still not sure what Montana style bbq means other than good. The ribs were EXTREMELY tender and tasty, brisket was decent, potato salad was good. The beans are very different from what people are probably used to but were still worth it. Sauce was sweet and spicy. Friendly staff. 4/5.

So I was excited to give this new local restaurant a try.

We got there and out came the food. First I tried the brisket.

It was very tender and flavorful. The potato salad was great too. I love both brisket and taters. I think I ate every bit on the plate.

Next up were the ribs. Let me tell you how fall off the bone tender they were. I loved the flavor too. I think I could get use to Montana style barbecue. I also remembered why my nickname was Messy Missy growing up.

Oh, and the coleslaw. I don't usually like coleslaw at all. I mean there is so much mayo type sauce drenched on it. I don't like mayo so it's just not for me. I gave this a try and it had to be the best slaw I have tried. It was crispy and fresh. Definitely a pleasant surprise.

Next came out the pulled pork sandwich, which is usually my go to when I go out for barbecue. We got a side of their beans with that. I have never had beans that had peaches in them. That was quite interesting. I didn't mind them one bit. The sandwich was good and I drenched more sauce on it.

Now of course you can't be a barbecue place without a great barbecue sauce. That is important. Oh and I tried the one they have at 406 Cook Shack. I was talking with Trisha and she said they are bottling new sauce ever couple of days. They go through so much. They even have some for sale that you can take home with you.

They have plenty of parking out back so you don't have to worry about that.

You might even see Mike out at the smoker getting more delicious food ready.

So when you are contemplating lunch and you are tired of the same ol' same ol' you can check out the Montana barbecue at 406 Cook Shack. When I asked about what Montana barbecue is it's all in the way it is cooked. They don't use mesquite to smoke their meat they use apple wood.  Apple wood gives a less smoky flavor and more of a meat flavor. You can really taste the difference.
