Facebook sure is a lot of useful fun.  The internet would not be the same without it.  But don't fake Facebook or you might be in a lot of trouble.  Especially in New Jersey.

41 year old Dana Thornton faces up to 18 months in prison.  Authorities contend she violated the state's identity theft laws.  What was here crime?

She created a fake Facebook page of her ex-boyfriend.  It doesn't help her case that said ex-boyfriend is a Parsippany police detective.

Her lawyer states his client may have violated Facebook rules but the state's identity theft rules don't apply because they don't mention the internet.

Prosecutors maintain the ex-boyfriend's reputation was harmed.
