Buffs’ Frustrated by Lack of Offense in Loss
The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M dropped their Lone Star Conference opener 44-7 to Tarleton State on Saturday night at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
The loss drops the Buffs to 1-2 on the season while the Texans improve to 2-0.
The turning point in the game came late in the first half after the Buffs changed quarterbacks. Starter Mitch Hood was replaced by last year's starter Justin Houghtaling after throwing two interceptions. Houghtaling engineered the best drive of the first half that ended with a Duke Carter touchdown run on third and goal. That gave the Buffaloes some momentum, trailing only 16-7.
Howver, the Texans responded by taking the kickoff back 96 yards to make it 23-7 at halftime. Tarleton continued to dominate in the second half to take the 44-7 win.
During the postgame interview on Lone Star 98.7 FM, head coach Hunter Hughes was blunt, saying the Texans just whipped them. WT managed just 123 total yards of offense for the game.
The Buffs try to regroup and will head to Western New Mexico this Saturday to face the Mustangs in Lone Star Conference play. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. central time. Pregame coverage begins at 12 noon on Lone Star 98.7 FM.
