Are You Safe Where You Live? Here’s Amarillo’s Safest Spots To Be.

With the spike in violent crimes here in Amarillo in 2021, I started to wonder if I'm good where I live.

I mean, 27 homicides in the city this past year is a high number.

The last I saw, overall crime in the city was down from previous years. However the violent crime in the city has risen.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather see the non-violent crime be the one on the rise. It makes me uneasy knowing that violence is becoming more prevalent in the city. Being new to the city in 2021, I kind of moved in blind. I didn't know a whole lot about the neighborhoods and where crime was and wasn't.

Now that I've been here for a bit, I've got more of a feel for the safest areas of Amarillo. I did a little research to see which neighborhoods had the lowest crime rates and where I'd be at my safest point. Here are the top 5 safe neighborhoods according to Neighborhood Scout.

5. BELL ST/ESTACADO LN

Located in the southwest quadrant of Amarillo, you'll find this neighborhood just south of John Stiff Memorial Park. I could see how this neighborhood would be a safe spot. Every time I drive through this area, I just feel a different type of vibe. It's kept up well and just seems like a quieter area.

4. GEORGIA ST/W FARMERS AVE

Just on the other side of I-27 from the Bell St/Estacado Ln neighborhood, we find our 4th safest place to be in Amarillo. Located near the Western Business Park, you'll find this area is in a bit of a remote area which keeps prowlers away since there's not a lot of hiding spots.

3. LAKE TANGLEWOOD/PALISADES

This is one of the higher end neighborhoods in Amarillo, and it's remotely located so it makes sense as to why crime is so low in the area. Big houses with security systems all over the place don't help the cause either. If you have some spare cash laying around, or maybe you just won Powerball, here's an area you can feel very safe in...and live lavishly.

2. N SONCY RD/FM 1061

Not as expensive as Lake Tanglewood to live in, yet a bit safer. Seems like a winning combination. This is the area where Tascosa Golf Club-La Paloma is located, and is just a beautiful area in general. It's got me thinking a bit...but I'd probably never be at home after work with a golf course THAT close.

1. BISHOP HILLS

Located next door to our Soncy location is Bishop Hills. This to me is a perfect location. It's even cheaper to live there than the Soncy/FM 1061 neighborhood, is close enough to it and is considered the safest place to live in Amarillo. Yup, sign me up. I think I've found my next neighborhood.
