Trouble Parking On Polk? It’s Going To Be That Way For A Month.
It's no secret that parking downtown can be tough. In fact, a lot of us have made complaining about it one of our favorite hobbies. Starting today (4/3), parking downtown will be impacted by a month long project on Polk.
Streetscape Project Coming To Polk Street
In a press release from the City of Amarillo, the announcement was made that parking on Polk Street is going to be "impacted" for about a month while a survey is being done. It's all part of the Polk Street Streetscape Project.
Where Will Parking Be Impacted By The Project On Polk
According to the press release put out by the City of Amarillo, the areas you'll want to avoid or be on the lookout for are South East 10th to South East 2nd.
From the press release:
Motorists travelling northbound and southbound along Polk Street between S.E. 10th Ave. to S.E. 2nd Ave. will encounter intermittent parking closures due to a survey needed for the project.
So, while the survey is being done, there will be times when parking is closed.
If You Thought It Was Hard To Find A Parking Spot Before...
...this isn't great news. The impact on parking on Polk will last for about a month...weather permitting, according to the City of Amarillo's press release. That part about the weather is enough to make those of us familiar with panhandle weather a little nervous.
But It Will Be So Nice When It's Finished
That's usually the line people say when it comes to any kind of construction. While I'm all about beautification and updating our roads and the downtown area, I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that some forward thinking individual has considered the issue of parking downtown.
Even with the "attempts" that have been made to ease the parking woes downtown, it still seems impossible to find a parking spot when you need one. Especially anytime there is some kind of special event taking place.
While I'm excited to see what happens to Polk, I'm hoping it comes with a little parking relief too.
