Trade-A-Thon Discusses Moving Fireworks Downtown
We spent Saturday morning bringing buyers and sellers together.
It's The Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon and we do it from 9-Noon pretty much every Saturday. It's want ads on the radio called in by you. Whether you call or listen we expect you to have an entertaining time and perhaps make a little money.
We ask all our callers a poll question before the give their listing. It's oftentimes random but this week there was something happening locally we wanted to discuss.
Amarillo is moving it's 4th of July festivities downtown, permanently, It got us to wondering what you thought about it.
What do you think of moving 4th of July to downtown Amarillo?

By a slim margin our callers declared they weren't in favor of the move. I'm not terribly thrilled about it either but for purely personal reasons. I live close to John Stiff Park and I had a walk of about a block and a half to watch the fireworks. I'm not one to take in the full day festival so I'll be missing the festivities from now on. And that makes me a little sad. Not so sad as to get out in the downtown mess and spend all day for 20 minutes of fireworks however.
RULE #6
We recite the regular rules of the program at the beginning of each hour. It helps ensure everyone is on the same page and knows how Trade-A-Thon works. I also bring you a special Rule #6 that changes every week.
Sometimes it's inspired by something that happened to me over the last week. On Tuesday I became an uncle for the fifth time. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited. I wasn't able to get to Lubbock for the birth. It felt like I was there with all the texts and photos and Facebook posts I was seeing. My new nephew is quite the star.
But then, all babies go through a stardom phase. It occurred to me how unfortunate it is babies receive the attention they will be begging for in their teens when they aren't aware of it. I thought it made for a good rule.
Rule #6: The unfortunate part of being a baby is you have no appreciation for how big a star you are.
See you next Saturday for another Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon!
