These Classic Big Hollywood Movies Were Filmed In Amarillo
Classic may not be the word for some of these. Some are more infamous. With all of the news surround OKC and the celebrities filming there, I decided to do some digging. Here are some classic movies filmed in Amarillo.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Yes, Indiana Jones' epic journey in search of the holy grail actually led him to the panhandle of Texas. The film also starred the late Sean Connery as Indiana's dad.
It's always fun being nearby when someone new in town learns that Last Crusade was filmed at Palo Duro Canyon. Pay attention to the end sequence when Indy and crew are riding off into a credits filled sky.
Waking Up In Reno
This one features a cameo from one of the most famous food challenges on I-40. You have to feel bad for Billy Bob Thorton's character. I've never consumed 72 oz of meat, and if it makes you feel like that I don't think I will. It also stars Patrick Swayze.
I don't know why, but I feel like a film featuring Billy Bob and the 72 oz steak just makes sense.
The Sundowners (1950)
This one was filmed around Amarillo, Canyon, and Palo Duro Canyon. Info on the Turner Classic Movies website states that the world premiere of the film was actually right here in Yellow City in 1950.
Hopefully soon we'll have big blockbusters filming in the area again. OKC just recently lost their minds over Danny Trejo visiting. I honestly never thought I would see someone get more press in Oklahoma than Leo DiCaprio, but Trejo pulled it off.
Let's get them to head west down 40 just a bit. We've got plenty to offer.
