The Polar Vortex Killed 57 People in Texas

An article published Monday by the Texas Tribune confirmed that at least 57 people died in Texas as a result of the winter storm that ripped through our state last month. The majority of people died from hypothermia.

Harris County accounted for nearly half of the deaths reported, with a total of 25 in their county alone. Car accidents due to weather conditions, carbon monoxide poisoning, fires, medical equipment failures and falls were other contributors to the number of deaths that happened between February 11th, 2021 and March 5th, 2021.

The people of Texas are still waiting for answers from ERCOT as to whether or not a disaster the likes of which we saw just recently could have been prevented.

Texas was clearly not prepared for the storm. Millions of people lost power and water during some of the most tremendous winter weather on record. Even Tesla CEO Elon Musk is stepping in to try to help where Texas is simply falling short.

We can't let it happen again. We just can't.

We lost 57 people, guys. Fifty-seven people will never blow out another birthday candle. Mothers. Fathers. Grandparents. Friends. Children. Fifty-seven real-life people are gone. It isn't just a number in the news to everyone. There are people out there mourning the loss of a person taken from them unexpectedly.

Someone is crying themselves to sleep tonight without the one they love, and it's up to all of us to hold those responsible for this horrific disaster accountable.

A few ways that you can voice your concern is by contacting your elected representatives or even writing or calling to Governor Greg Abbott to ask what will be done differently to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Something fishy is going on with ERCOT and we cannot let them pull the wool over our eyes. We have to demand justice for the human lives we lost.
