Ever wanted to outrun a cop without getting arrested? Then mark your calendars for June 17th, because the Amarillo Dragway in collaboration with the Amarillo Police Department, and Amarillo Crime Stoppers will be hosting a race-a-cop event.

That's right. It's time to see if the APD can keep up with the fastest cars in Amarillo. And let me tell you, after looking at some pictures from last year's race-a-cop even you can assume that the cars that APD has in its arsenal are no pushovers.

These law enforcement officers have been training for months, fine-tuning their driving skills and revving up their engines to put Amarillo's drivers to shame.

The APD Challenger may be a mystery machine when it comes to it's exact specs, but one thing's for sure – it'll leave Amarillo drag racers quaking in their boots.

So for those of you who are feeling competitive or are just ready to show up a cop, this is your chance. So bring your own car or just come to watch and enjoy the thrill of the race.

This is a day that you won't want to miss. So mark your calendars for June 17th and come out to the Amarillo Dragway to cheer on your favorite cop. With high-speed action and plenty of excitement, it's sure to be a race to remember. And who knows, maybe you'll even get the chance to take a spin in a patrol car (just be sure to obey the speed limit!).

RANKED: America's Top 12 Best-Looking State Trooper Cruisers

Did you know that there is a brotherhood of state troopers called the American Association of State Troopers (AAST)? Their goal: PROTECT. PROVIDE. CONNECTAccording to their website the AAST was formed in 1989 when a "small group of Florida state troopers had the vision to create an association that would unite state troopers across the country and assist them by providing valuable benefits and services."

Each year the AAST releases a calendar of the best looking state trooper cruisers. Ranking is determined by their Facebook followers. It's all for a great cause too. Proceeds benefit the AAST Foundation, which provides higher education scholarships for AAST troopers' children dependents. A noble cause by any measure.
