Amarillo Man Dead After Opening Fire On Family
Tragedy struck a family in Amarillo, TX. on Tuesday, reminding us all that violent crime can happen any time, anywhere in the city...including in your own home.
That's exactly what happened around 6 pm when a relative of the family decided to inexplicably open fire while two family members were simply watching TV.
Kodey Dunn, a 27 year old male, emerged from a bedroom with a gun and started firing at the two family members. Those two family members were hit by the bullets, but they were able to move from where they were sitting.
They ran outside and got the neighbors attention who then alerted police as to what was happening. There were two others inside the house at the time of the shooting who made it out unscathed.
The individuals who had been shot explained to police that Dunn was still inside the home, and Amarillo PD raced to the location. Once they arrived, they surrounded the house and attempted to make contact with him. They asked him to come out and surrender.
Police received zero response to their requests and were unable to connect with him. SWAT was able to get close enough to the home and get a camera inside. It was then when they realized Dunn was down in a bedroom.
As SWAT entered the home after seeing this, they were able to confirm that Dunn had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
We don't know at this time how Dunn was related to those that were in the home, or what may have motivated him to start shooting. We also don't have any updates on the condition of the victims.
