Lady Buffs Season Ends With Region Final Loss
The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs season came to an end last night in the South Central Region championship game in Lubbock as WT fell to #2 Lubbock Christian University 56-53.
The Lady Buffs kept it close and trailed by only two points after three quarters, but the Lady Chaps managed to pull out to a 8-point lead midway through the 4th period and held off WT the rest of the way. The Lady Buffs had a shot to tie it at the buzzer but missed it.
Lexy Hightower and Sydney Walton each had 12 points for the Lady Buffs. Tess Bruffey had a triple-double for LCU with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
WT finishes 29-5 on the season. Lubbock Christian moves to 31-1 and heads to the Elite Eight next week in Souix Falls, South Dakota.
- The WT men’s team hopes to avoid the same fate tonight as the Buffaloes meet UT-Permian Basin in the South Central Region final in Canyon. It will be the fourth meeting between the teams this season. The Buffaloes have won two of the three, including the championship game of the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
The game will feature not only two of the best teams in the nation but two of the top players as well. The Falcons are led by the LSC and South Central Region Player of the Year Daeshon Francis, while the Buffaloes have the all-time Lone Star Conference scoring leader in David Chavlovich.
The winner will head to the men’s Elite Eight. Game time is 7 p.m. at the FUB Center in Canyon. Live coverage of the game begins at 6:45 p.m. on Lone Star 98.7 FM.
