The APD Homicide division received a tip about possible remains being in the area of Hastings Ave. and Smelter Road.  At the time, rain-delayed further investigation of the site.   The investigation was put on hold and the crime scene was secured until after the weather passed

Once the APD was able to get on-site and further investigate.  The APD Crime Scene Investigation Unit began a clandestine burial site dig to find evidence of human remains. Pieces of bones were discovered in the dig.  The remains were sent to the lab to determine if the remains were human or animal.

On Monday, January 22, the Amarillo Police Department confirmed that lab analysis determined that the remains were that of an animal.

The APD also said that even though the outcome of the tests was disappointing to some, the Homicide Unit will not let this information deter them from fully investigating and following up on any leads or information related to this particular case.
