Two Major Breweries In Texas Are About to Shut Down, Here’s The Reason Why
Beer is a way of life here in Texas.
Most of us who live in the Lone Star state have a favorite beer, and we like being able to buy it, wherever we may go. That that just might all change here in the near future.
Turmoil at Two Top Breweries in Texas
If your favorite cold one is from brewers Anheuser-Busch or Molson Coors. Both companies are facing big problems. Workers at the Molson Coors Texas plant went on strike over the weekend, and the employees of Anheuser-Busch in Texas are about to do the same.
From what I understand, the employees of both companies are represented by the Teamsters Union. The Molson Coors workers gave a hard deadline for a new contract: February 29. If a new agreement is not reached by then, the Anheuser-Busch workers are set to go on strike as well.
Why They're On Strike
Simple. Teamsters want the new contract to reflect the increase in the cost of living since their last contract was worked out to make sure their employees aren't struggling.
How's This Affect My Beer?
I know you're thinking to yourself, there's plenty of beer factories across America..surely this won't interfere too much with finding my brew. While that may be true of Molson Coors, it's not the same for Anheuser-Busch.
Anheuser-Busch has a single master contract for ALL 12 breweries across the country with Teamsters. That means if the agreement isn't hammered out, production at Anheuser-Busch will essentially completely stop until an agreement is reached.
That can cause problems with finding your favorite beer, right?
So which tasty beverages could you find shortages of? Let's take a look at that.
MOLSON COORS
If Molson Coors stays on strike for a good chunk of time, we will start to eventually see shortages of some very popular beverages. Here are just a few of the ones you may have a hard time finding.
- Coors
- Coors Light
- Blue Moon
- Miller Lite
- Keystone Light
- Arnold Palmer Spiked
- Topo Chico Hard Seltzer.
ANHEUSER-BUSCH
This is the one that could get bad. With all 12 breweries for Anheuser-Busch being part of Teamsters, these beers could flat-out disappear if the strike were to drag on too long, and there would be some angry customers if it did. Here are just a few of the brands that could be tough to find.
- Budweiser
- Bud Light
- Michelob Ultra
- Stella Artois
- Natural Light
- Busch
- Landshark
Needless to say, we beer drinkers would like to see this get ratified and fixed sooner rather than later. A beer shortage is NOT something we need to see.
