Dollar General Store Could Be Coming to Amarillo’s River Road

Any time we hear about a new business with plans to open in Amarillo, it's time to rejoice. Not only is the city growing, but more areas are getting businesses closer to home.

Where Is the New Dollar General Planned in Amarillo?

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, a new Dollar General is planned for Amarillo. It’s planned, and it will be convenient for those living on River Road and for those in North Amarillo. The new store is labeled as Dollar General - Store #32143 in the TDLR. Although an exact location wasn't given, the area described was 0.013 Miles south of East H.

When Could Construction Start on the Amarillo Dollar General?

The timeline for construction is a November 1, 2027, start with a May 1, 2028, completion. The building is expected to be 9,100 sq. ft., with an estimated cost of $600,000.

What Did Dollar General Say About the Amarillo Store?

We did reach out to Dollar General when we heard the new store was coming. A Dollar General spokesperson told us that they are currently in the due diligence phase for a new location. They are reviewing the opportunity to add a store in Potter County, but are not committed just yet. They should have a final decision on a new store by early winter 2028.

What Happens Next for the River Road Dollar General?

Although they did not give us a definite yes on whether a new Dollar General is coming to River Road, we do know a project was filed through the TDLR. We will have to wait and see. It would be a welcome addition to the area. The closest Dollar General in that area is located at 203 E. Willow Creek Drive.
