I like days when I am not in a hurry. Days that I can take alternate routes home so that I can check out different parts of town. Those are relaxing days and days that end up bringing me back.

The other day I was driving home from my chiropractor on Medi Park Drive and decided to take the long way home down Plains Blvd. That, of course, ends up turning into 10th and leads me toward my Bivins home.

As I am driving I am looking around and reminiscing about places I remember from years back. When I got to 10th Ave I looked over and saw Little Caesars. I remember when it wasn't a Little Caesars.

That is what there is now but not too long ago I remember going late at night to the former location. Back when it was Wheel's owned by Larry Mitchell here in Amarillo.

Do You Remember Wheels Chicken and Waffles in Amarillo?

I remember the first time I heard about Wheels Chicken and Waffles.  I was leaving Midnight Rodeo with some friends. Just like you do at two am you want food. We didn't make the drive for the endless line at Whataburger. We did not look to have our hashbrowns scattered or smothered at Waffle House.

No that is when I was told about Wheels. The great thing about them was that they were open twenty-four hours over the weekend. So perfect for us leaving a night of dancing.

I remember my first time there. I had never had chicken and waffles. I mean this was when it first became popular. So I was going to try them for sure.

I remember how great the staff was. I remember how much of a down-home place it was to hang out at with your friends. I really enjoyed stopping there to eat. I remember telling my daughter we needed to go sometime.

Then poof they were gone. I really hated it because it was such a great place and had the greatest dessert ever. Their waffle cheesecake.

I mean look at that greatness. I reached out to Larry the former owner and asked when exactly they closed. I remember going a lot back in 2012 and 2013. Those were good times. He couldn't pinpoint the exact time either but according to Potter Randall Appraisal District Office, he sold the building back in 2018. Though they closed much earlier than that.

I will go on record right now saying how much I miss this place. Bring back Wheels. I will sign that petition. Maybe more than once.
