I’m such a sucker for good causes, and tomorrow there’s an especially good one: Empty Bowls. This is a joint effort between AISD and the High Plains Food Bank in an effort to tackle childhood hunger, and let me tell you, I'm all about supporting this fundraiser in any way I possibly can.

The Empty Bowls fundraiser takes place April 20 from 5:30-7:00pm at the Polk Street United Methodist Church in the Great Hall and for just $10, they'll be filling your bowls with some delicious beef stew to raise money for Kids Cafe.

Childhood hunger is a rampant problem, affecting one in five local children, and the Kids Cafe program from High Plains Food Bank is all about making sure they do their part to feed those hungry children.

The Empty Bowls fundraiser is about more than just feeding hungry children, it activates students across the school district to give back to the community. At the event, you will find AISD student choirs providing some tasty musical selections while some of the art students will be contributing some awesome handcrafted bowls. Not to mention the culinary arts students will chip in their skills with some fresh baked bread to enjoy with your beef stew.

Empty Bowls is a grassroots effort, which means they can't pull this off without our support Amarillo, so don't make any dinner plans for Tuesday. Gather up the family and head on out to Polk Street United Methodist Church to band together as a community. It's just one of the things that makes Bomb City so special. I sure hope to see you there.
