Bell Helicopter, a major employer in Amarillo has announced around 1100 layoffs globally within the company.

Locally it is estimated 50 to 100 people could be laid off.

There are many factors playing a role in the cuts.  Decreased production of the V-22 Osprey, while anticipated is a contributor.  The global commercial orders and deliveries in the medium markets are dramatically lower than forecast.  Additionally a falling demand for parts and sequestration are affecting Bell's profitability.

Since October, Bell has laid off 85 employees locally.
