Amarillo's City Manager Jarrett Atkinson has tendered his resignation.

The letter was sent in an email to Mayor Harpole, Council members, and the City's Human Resources Director.

Atkinson has not given a reason for his resignation.  Atkinson has been under scrutiny since late June when the three newly elected council members called for him to resign, mainly over issues surrounding downtown redevelopment and controversy over a water meter reading controversy.

In the letter Atkinson doesn't give reasons for his decision but rather goes into detail about achievements the city has made while he was employed as both the City Manager and Assistant City Manager.  Atkinson has been with the city since 2004.
