The City of Amarillo has accepted four large grants which will help fund efforts to protect citizens from disease.

The grants come from the Texas Department of State Health Services.  In total it represents more than $780,000.  The Amarillo City Council voted to accept the grants last night.

The grants will fund immunizations, emergency preparedness, the STD clinic, and tuberculosis services for the next year.  All those services are widely used by the Amarillo community.

The state grants are the primary source of funding for the Department of Public Health for the next year.

Although we are in the middle of flu season the department reminds you it isn't too late to get vaccinated.  Other vaccines and tests are available at the public health clinic year round.

Thanks to these grants it is expected that no patients will be turned away from the Department of Public Health for inability to pay for immunizations.
