Xcel Energy Petitioning To Add Line-Item Charge To Your Bill
You may not be using more electricity but your electricity bill could soon have another fee attached if Xcel gains approval for new charge.
This new and separate line-item charge is known as the Transmission Recovery Factor. During the 2016 calendar year, Xcel says it invested more than $258 million in new and upgraded transmission lines and substations within Texas and New Mexico.
Through the new added fee Xcel hopes to recover $16.1 million to help cover the $258 million dollar investment. The proposed cost to consumers would be an extra $2.11 for residential customers using 1,00 kilowatt-hours, or a 1.9% increase. If approved by the Public Utility Commission the new charge will appear on your bill in late spring or early summer.
