We opened up the phone lines Saturday for you to buy, sell and trade.

It's the show that allows you to sell pretty much anything and just because Saturday was Independence Day didn't stop us from bringing you three hours of want ads on the radio.

We had an especially gratifying outing on the show and hopefully you sold what you were selling or found something you just couldn't live without.  A big thank you to all that spent time with us on America's birthday.

We ask all our callers a poll question before they give their items.  This week we had a little fun with it.  Depending on how you answered the question I determined it told me a lot about you.  Since is was the 249th 4th of July I stuck with a question of pyrotechnics.

What is your preference, firecracker or sparkler.

Firecracker 16

Sparkler 9

Most respondents like loud noises, enjoy blowing stuff up and demand instant gratification.  Sparkler folks like spicy food, live to build and enjoy pretty things.

Along with the regular rules of the program I always bring you a special Rule #6 that changes every week.  Sometime inspired by something that has happened to me over the last week or sometimes over my life.

I helped run a fireworks stand for three years in a previous life.  I've had fireworks fights which I wholeheartedly condemn, they are awfully dangerous.  I also remember a time my cousin and I were throwing firecrackers at cars during our high school days.  I wasn't having much luck.  My cousin told me I need to hold the lit firecracker for longer than I was for best effect.  He said he would show me and was standing behind me.  He got ready, lite his Black Cat and drew back and it promptly exploded in his hand.  Luckily he didn't have his hand closed or he would have lost fingers.  As it was he suffered some decent powder burns on his hand.  Sounds like the inspiration for a good rule.

Rule #6 Light fuse and get away.  Do not hold sparklers, roman candles, firecrackers or any other firework in your hands(and do not attach a mortar shell on your head).

See you this Saturday for another item filled show with a healthy dash or humor.
