What's with all the hate towards the great State of Texas? It's obvious those that hate us have never been here.

I recently saw an article from our sister station about how Texas was ranked as one of the "least kind" states in the country. Reminded me of another article I saw about how our great state ranked just behind Arizona as the worst state to live in the U.S.

Why all the hate on Texas? It's gotta be about politics, right? The rest of the country knows all about our open carry gun laws, calling us the "wild wild west." The national news reports on our border issues constantly, Governor Abbott and President Biden have exchanged words on more than one occasion, and Vice President Harris has also targeted Texas on our borders and voting laws. All this and seeing a plane full of Democrats flee the state to prevent a vote has certainly left us looking bad to some people, but to say we are the second worse state to live in? Really?

The article on CNBC's website listed the top 10 worst states to call home, with Missouri and Nevada tied at number three and Arizona at number one. Outside of those three states and Indiana at number 10, the rest were all Southern states: Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee. (Somehow Mississippi and Florida didn't land in the top 10.)

The article cited their 2021 Life, Health and Inclusion score where Texas got a 104 out of 375 points - an F on their scale. They did list "hospital resources" as our only strength, but listed inclusiveness, health, voting rights, and public health funding as our biggest weaknesses.

Well it is CNBC we're talking about here, and they pretty much hate everything Republican. I know it works both ways, but Texas is a great state to live in. Gas is cheap, there are plenty of jobs available, the school districts are good, there's plenty of Tex-Mex everywhere you go. There's plenty to do and at a cheaper cost.

Just look at all the growth we are seeing in Central Texas alone. It's happening across the state, so if we are that bad of a place to live then why are so many people moving here?

Apparently those people don't watch CNBC.

Shout-Out to our sister station in San Angelo for the inspiration for this article.

It's Time to 'Stuff the Bus' for Central Texas Students

The new school year is just around the corner, and Central Texas students will face unique challenges as we put the pandemic behind us and look to the future.

One challenge no child should face is being without the essential school supplies they'll need to live up to their potential and achieve academic success.

That's where you and I come in. From July 19 to August 15, you can donate school supplies at the following locations. Donated supplies will benefit students in need in Belton ISD, Killeen ISD, and Temple ISD. (Click each district to view their 2021-2022 school supply lists.)
