If there's one place you wouldn't expect to see Texans thriving, it would be in the Winter Olympics. Snow, ice, and the Lone Star State are three things you just wouldn't expect to mix well. However, that may change at the upcoming games in Beijing.

Team USA has announced the 223-athlete lineup for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, which will take place from February 4-20, 2022. Here's a quick list of Texas athletes who will be competing on behalf of the red, white, and blue:

Sylvia Hoffman — Bobsled

Arlington-born Sylvia Hoffman was originally a collegiate basketball player at Louisiana State University Shreveport and hobby weightlifter. After competing on The Next Olympic Hopeful in 2018, the US Bobsled Team invited her to attend their rookie training camp. This is her first Olympics appearance, though she did compete with the team in the 2018-2019 World Cup Season.

Ashley Cain-Gribble — Figure Skating (Pair)

Born in Carrolton and raised in Coppell, Ashely Cain-Gribble comes from a long tradition of figure skating. While this is her first Olympic appearance, she's had multiple successes with her current skating partner, Timothy LeDuc, including finishing 9th in the 2021 World Championship. Cain-Gribble attended Texas Tech University Independent School and serves on the Athlete Advisory Committee for US Figure Skating.

(Fun fact: LeDuc relocated to Euless, Texas in order to train with Cain-Gribble at the Dr. Pepper Star Center.)

Kellie Delka — Skeleton

Kellie Delka may be a native of Denton and a University of North Texas graduate, but she'll be competing in the skeleton racing event on behalf of Puerto Rico (Delka has been representing them during the last four seasons). She was introduced to skeleton sledding by another North Texas Olympian, Johnny Quinn.

Katie Uhlaender — Skeleton

Though she now trains in Colorado, skeleton racer Katie Uhlaender grew up in McGregor and previously worked at the Carrick Brain Center in Irving. 2022 marks Uhlaender's fifth trip to the Winter Olympics: she's previously won two gold, one silver, and three bronze medals.
