Shooting Suspect In Amarillo Murder Case Arrested
This one has been a long time coming, but it's like the old saying goes, "you can run, but you can't hide." Looks like the hide and seek game has come to an end for Darius Qumaine Allen.
Allen has been the suspect in the murder case of Barry Ray Hemphill since the shooting happened back on July 17, 2020. To refresh your memory, this happened on the 100 block of S. Tennessee St. Officers were initially called out to the scene for an assault. Once officers got on the scene, they found Hemphill unresponsive with a gunshot to the upper body.
Police were quick to name Allen the suspect based on witness accounts of the situation. I will say, Allen was able to stay hidden and on the run for quite awhile, nearly 10 full months. Ultimately though, he wasn't able to stay hidden forever. He was arrested yesterday in Houston after being found by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. He's being held in the Harris County Jail on not one, but TWO different counts, both out of Potter County. Murder in the case of Hemphill and another count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
We still don't know what the connection is between Allen and Hemphill, but now that Allen has been apprehended, we will finally get some info on what their relationship was. At the end of the day, it's just good to see that there may be an ending to this case.
