Being a new mom is a lot. You are going through an awful lot of ups and downs yourself after giving birth. Now you have a new baby to take care of as well. The lack of sleep can get to you. The amount of crying.

You feel like all this little baby is doing is eating, pooping, and crying. Basically for a while, that is all they are doing. If you are fighting postpartum that is a whole other issue. Your mental health has taken a hit and it keeps coming at you.

Some people don't have the great support system that others do. You may not have the support of the father and his family. Heck, you may not even have the support of your own family.

These are the situations that make the Safe Haven law a great thing to have around. According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Service:

The Safe Haven law, also known as the Baby Moses law, gives parents who are unable to care for their child a safe and legal choice to leave their infant with an employee at a designated safe place—a hospital, fire station, free-standing emergency centers or emergency medical services (EMS) station. Then, your baby will receive medical care and be placed with an emergency provider.

This law was used recently in Amarillo. A mother, I am assuming, dropped her six to eight-week-old baby off at an Amarillo Fire Station. The baby was up to date with its shots. The baby was well taken care of and in perfect health.

This mom just probably reached her breaking point and did the most selfless thing possible. She made sure this baby would be taken care of in the future.

There have been stories in the past of babies being found in dumpsters and other tragic situations. With this law in place, it gives moms a way to not be in trouble when they just can't find a way to go on. Really this mom did a great thing for this child.

So moms just know this law is out there for you if you just can't. Make sure your baby has a chance at life. Do the selfless thing. Find out more about the Safe Haven law HERE.
