Standardized testing has been around for a long time but many think they are becoming a little ridiculous.  So ridiculous that thousands of High School students in New Mexico have organized a protest.

New Mexico announced that this year they would be debuting a new standardized test called the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC.  This tests are based on common core subjects and outline math and language skills that should be mastered in each grade.

Parents and teachers across the nation have voiced their disapproval, but it's the students who decided to take a stand.  Last week, walkouts and demonstrations began  in Santa Fe then continued in Carlsbad on Friday.

Today, hundreds of students in Albuquerque and Las Cruces joined in.  Despite the warning of discipline, the students took a stand.  As soon as the test began, the students got up and walked out.  They held signs that said 'More Teaching, Less Testing' and chanted 'out the door with common core.'

Many of the students and parents feel that preparing for these tests take away from the learning that is needed.

Do you think that students should have to take standardized tests?
