The family of five intersections in Amarillo with red light cameras may soon be growing.

The Amarillo Traffic Commission has been going over the data  generated by the red light cameras in town and they see a difference.  Both in decrease in accidents and in revenue.

Mayor Harpole has said accidents are trending down at the monitored intersections and the safety issue is the most important one these cameras address.

It's time to renew the contract with the company that administers the system.  The city is planning to appoint an advisory committee before renewing the contract.  Among other things the committee will look at is potential expansion of the program to other intersections in the city.
