Man Arrested Following Reports of Gunshots in Southlawn
Amarillo Police Department shared a media release in regards to an arrest made in the Southlawn area.
During the early morning hours of April 20, officers with Amarillo Police Department were called out to 44th and Travis street on reports of gunshots. On arrival, they found that a residence with multiple bullet holes. Officers then called two people out of the home, a male identified as Darius Vincent Solis and an unidentified 26-year-old female. Both were unharmed.
Subsequent to the arrest of Solis, APD conducted an investigation of the area and found that two separate vehicles parked out front of the residence also had bullet holes. Officers were able to determine that the vehicles had been struck by a firearm discharged from within the home.
Inside the residence, officers located a handgun that had been concealed inside the home. It was later shown that the gun had been reported as stolen from a burglarized vehicle on February 27, 2020.
Solis was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Deadly Conduct Discharging a Firearm from a Residence.
Officials with APD have asked the community to help in reporting any gunshots in the area. Residents are advised to make a report by placing a call to emergency services..
According to the APD report, they have been using the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network. Since 2019 with the APD began using this network, they have been able to solve cases just by entering the ballistic evidence into the NIBIN system.
