This is especially true today, where the rising cost of everything is hurting everybody.  A family that once had a disposable income is now living paycheck to paycheck.  The cost of living is going up and liveable wages are not.

The median salary to live comfortably in Texas is $58,155.

Although the median average median income in Texas is $63,826, most Texans are struggling.   Even though the average median income is that much, most Texans are not making enough to make ends meet.

In fact, several cities in the state make less than the median salary to live.

According to GoBankingRates.com, these Texas cities are struggling.

  • El Paso - The median income is $29,241
  • San Antonio - The median income is $37,198
  • Arlington - The median income is $43,168
  • Ft. Worth - The median income is $43,168
  • Houston - The median income $43,168

How are people surviving when not even making the median income?

Texas is 7% below the national average for the cost of living.

Yet, people are still struggling to make ends meet.

In a perfect world, the median income for a Texan to be happy with their wages is $97,230.  Let's face it, that isn't going to happen for a lot of people these days.

Employers are going to have to start doing significant cost of living raises or something is going to have to give.  At some point in time, prices are going to have to level out so those in Texas and even across the United States can breathe instead of wondering if they will have a home to live in next month.
