
Your Guide to Shopping Local in Amarillo This Saturday
One of the biggest shopping days of the year is Black Friday. This is the day when you are supposed to be able to find the biggest savings on popular and useful items. However, the day after Black Friday is Small Business Saturday, and this is the day to get out and support our local businesses in Amarillo.
History of Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday was started in 2010 as a marketing campaign by American Express. It was a way to encourage people to shop local and support the businesses in the cities where they live.
The first Small Business Saturday was on November 27, 2010.
In 2011, the US Senate passed a resolution to recognize Small Business Saturday and in 2012, all 50 states recognized the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday.
When is Small Business Saturday?
This year, Small Business Saturday will be on Saturday, November 29.
Not too long ago, I asked our Facebook friends to share their favorite small local businesses with us. I was thinking we'd get 25 to 30 suggestions tops, but boy oh boy was I shocked when the recommendations exploded and just kept coming. Additions are still being added daily.
