Teaching these days can feel like a thankless job, even though they are helping to mold our children's future. It is important to recognize those teachers and celebrate the best!
Here's your chance to single out your favorite science teachers.
Right now, the Texas Medical Association wants to know about all those outstanding science teachers in the Lone Star State. They are currently accepting entries for the 2026 Ernest and Sarah Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching.

Why the Butler Awards Matter
This award honors those exceptional Texas elementary, middle, and high school science teachers. These are the teachers who go above and beyond to spark interest in science and motivate students to explore the world of medicine.
There are over $62,000 in cash and rewards available for outstanding Texas science teachers and their schools.
What Teachers Win
- Grand Prize: $20,000 for a teacher and $5,000 resource grant for their school
- Distinguished Awards: 3 teachers will receive $7,000 and $3,000 for their schools
- Rookie Award: $5,000 for a teacher and $2,000 for their school
Who Can Be Nominated
To be eligible, the educator must be a full-time Texas public or private school science teacher with at least two years in the classroom. The teacher must also be teaching in a Texas classroom for the 2026-27 school year.
All eligible science teachers are welcome to apply or be nominated.
