Pet Treat Recall

Carolina Prime Pet, Inc. out of Lenoir, NC has issued a voluntary recall on their 16 oz bags of Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips.  These are dog treats that could possibly be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to Pet MD, symptoms of salmonella in dogs include:

  • Severe, sudden onset, watery diarrhea
  • Bloody diarrhea (hematochezia)
  • Vomiting
  • Lethargy
  • Fever
  • Decreased appetite, with or without weight loss
  • Dehydration

Humans are at risk of contracting salmonella from handling contaminated products.

The recalled product comes in a 16-oz purple and black bag, with lot number 20051324L2, and an expiration date of 11/13/25.

These dog treats were distributed in Texas, as well as Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee.  The product was also available for purchase through the company website www.hollywoodfeed.com.

No illnesses have been reported as of publishing.

Gains Pet Treats Recall

Gaines Pet Treats LLC, located in Birmingham, Alabama, is recalling their 5-ounce bags of Chicken Chips dog treats due to possible Salmonella contamination.

These treats were in 5-oz bags with lot number 20061124 and an expiration date of 12/11/25.  These treats were distributed through online retailers and independent pet stores in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

This recall affected products made at BrucePac's plant in Durant, Oklahoma, and has reached several popular stores like Walmart and Trader Joe's. So, if you've got any of these products at home, it's time to play it safe. The recall includes 75 types of meat and chicken products, including grilled chicken breast strips, produced between June 19 and October 8, 2024. The best-by dates range from June 19, 2025, to October 8, 2025. If you spot these items in your fridge or freezer, it's best to throw them out right away.
