All it takes is one split second to change everything. One mistake can cost you everything. It can also cost someone their life. That is what we found out back in August of last year.

On August 26, 2022, Lloyd McMaster was doing what he did very often. He was standing on the median on the access road of I40 and Georgia. Sometimes he was just there not asking for anything. He only took from people if he needed something. That day he was minding his own business.

That is when everything changed for him and Casey Curtis Howard. Casey was exiting I40 at Georgia when his car drove up on the median and struck and killed McMaster. Just a split second was all it took.

Casey then decided to drive off. He was apprehended in the McDonald's parking lot at I40 and Western. That running is not going to help his case.

Casey Curtis Howard was indicted last month n the death of Lloyd McMaster. He was indicted for an accident involving injury or death. Since Lloyd's death, the community came together to make sure he had a funeral. His life mattered. At that time his family could not be located. The community of Amarillo was his family.

It took some time but his family was found. So Lloyd was going to be able to have a proper funeral. Since Lloyd's passing, there was also a mural painted to keep his memory alive. You can see it in person in Downtown Amarillo.

That split second has kept Casey Curtis Howard in the Potter County Detention Center. He has been there since that fateful day back in August. You never know how some choices can change everything.

In this case, one life ended with death. Another life is still waiting to see what happens. The indictment is the first step to see what the future holds for Casey Curtis Howard.
