On a recent trip to downtown Amarillo, Texas I came across a most unusual sight. It was near one of our courthouses and left me with several questions. I do not want to demean or chastise anyone over what I saw. I'm simply a person with a question. What is this, Amarillo?

What's Going On Near The District Courthouse In Downtown Amarillo, Texas?

The first thing I noticed was the color and texture of the ground. It slowly shifted into this almost gray color. When I walked on it, it would crunch under the weight of each step. A slight aroma filled the air.

What is going on here? Perhaps the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man exploded in the vicinity. I'm not a scientist, so I can't be sure.

What Is The Stuff All Over The Ground At The Courthouse In Amarillo, Texas?

It was, or is, absolutely everywhere. This gray layer of crust was on the ground, and even covered signs in the area. Where did this come from, and how did it get here?

I began wondering how long this crusty layer had been there. How long did it take to accumulate? Had it gone unnoticed, or is it sitting somewhere on a "take a look at" list?

We All Know What It Really Is And It's Mind Blowing

We all know what it is. At least, I think we do. It's an insane amount of bird treasures left to bake in the sun.

I'm sure getting this cleaned up is on someone's to-do list and it'll be handled soon. In the meantime, it's wild. Birds apparently love the area downtown around the District Courthouse. The good news is, I don't think it's anything that a little time and a pressure washer set on "peel off the skin" won't fix.

Maybe in the meantime, we can put up some of those creepy plastic owls or something to keep the birds at bay. We don't have to be mean about it. We just need to send a message to our feathered friends that enough is enough. Then we should throw a party when it all gets scraped up.

Amarillo Landmarks: Negative Yelp Reviews

Yelp can be a strange and angry place. That's what I found out recently when I decided to sort the reviews by "lowest rating" first.

I was okay with the people upset over bad service and what not. But I came across a few reviews that, for lack of a better word, left me speechless in their scathing negative reviews on some of Amarillo's most iconic places. Prepare your self for plenty of head shaking and "I dunno" shrugs.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
