If you weren't familiar with Fort Hood before this year, you certainly are after the last few months - and for all the wrong reasons.

A male soldier was reported missing from the base in Killeen, TX in December 2019. He was later identified as Pvt Gregory Morales. Fast forward to April 2020, when the disappearance of Vanessa Guillen captured the state of Texas. Guillen was found deceased in June.

Now it's July, and a third Fort Hood soldier has been found deceased just outside of the troubled base. The soldier has been identified as 26-year-old Pvt. Mejhor Morta from Pensacola, Florida. Morta was found dead July 17 near Stillhouse Lake. He'd joined the Army in September of last year as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle Mechanic.

Natalie Khawam, the attorney for the Vanessa Guillen family, released the following statement on behalf of the Guillen family, upon hearing the news of another soldier's death:

"As we all know, our soldiers are not safe at Ft. Hood. Unfortunately this U.S. soldier’s death is consistent with our concerns, that these soldiers are living on a dangerous base and are being threatened if they speak up. Enough is Enough! We the people demand a Congressional Investigation! How many more soldiers need to die before Congress agrees to convene a Congressional Investigation?! We will not accept anything less than a Congressional Investigation, and we demand one immediately! God be with all our men and women serving our country, especially those stationed at Ft. Hood! Our soldiers fight to protect us and our great country, it’s time we fight to protect them!"

Morta's death is still under investigation by the Bell County Sheriff's Department. The department hasn't released whether or not it believes foul play is involved.
