Spectacular lightening and heavy rain was the highlight of my Tuesday night.  I think we can all feel confident in our 4th of July plans.

Yes, we were officially pounded with rain last night.  Rick Husband Airport got .82 inches of rain by 1am last night.  That brings us to 1.25 inches for the month, slightly below average.

A system moved through the Amarillo area about 10:30 p.m. with heavy rain continuing until about 11 p.m.  There was an unofficial report that 0.80 of an inch of rain fell in about seven minutes in downtown.

The Amarillo-Potter-Randall Emergency Operations Center reported multiple stranded cars around the city; the Washington Street underpass at Interstate 40 was shut down for some time for high waters and a stranded vehicle.

Flash flooding caused brief closures in other areas such as Rockewell Road and Soncy Road, where water covered roadways, and at the intersection of Hollywood Road and Coulter Street, where a foot of water was reported.
