I know what kind of hot water heater you have is not necessarily a concern you have. Well that is as long as the one you have is doing what it is supposed to. You know nothing is worse than waking up and not having the means to get hot water for a shower.

You don't know what you have until it's gone. When I moved into my new home I was excited that it had a tankless water heater. It doesn't take up the same amount of space as a traditional hot water heater does. The idea of having instant hot water and not having to worry about running out was just magical.

That was until I started having problems with it. It turns out if you want one of those systems in Amarillo you need to do more work. It's not a bad system to have but you can't just count on the water heater being magical like I thought. I didn't take into consideration about our hard water here in the Panhandle.

What does that do? It clogs up your aerators in your sink, the deposits clog up your shower head. Why is that a problem? If there are clogs than you are not getting the water pressure you need. If you don't get the pressure than your tankless water heater doesn't know that you need hot water. It's a vicious cycle.

I don't know how many times I had to call a plumber out to help me get hot water in my kitchen sink, my bathroom sink or my shower. That is not fun. So if you have a system already what can you do? Install a water softener. That will get rid of those deposits that clog up the areas you need hot water. Now there is maintenance and flushing of the system you will need. It is a solution.

What did I do? I had my nice plumber come in and give me a new hot water tank. I opted against the tankless variety. I have friends that have the tankless and love it but they also have the water softener. Take it from me Amarillo water is not a best friend to the tankless water heater at all.
