Ok, so maybe I'm being a tad dramatic here...but maybe I'm not.

Whenever I move to a new place, one of the first things I Google is "Target store locations ".

When only ONE store populated in Amarillo, my heart sunk. You see, Target is my go-to. I can get absolutely lost in that store, and yes, I spend entirely too much money.

We have a few friends back in Austin that lived in Amarillo prior to moving. We reached out to them completely perplexed as to why there's only a lone Target to be found within the city limits. We received a wide range of answers from them, and it did nothing to take away my confusion.

Too Snobby

"Target is too snobby for Amarillo" was one of the reasons given to us. Look, I've lived here for a little bit now, and I really just can't get on board with this statement. I mean, I don't see anything "snobby" about Target. Sure, it can be a bit more eye appealing than some other stores that are similar, but too snobby? Please tell me that's not true Amarillo.

Too Walmart-y

"Walmart is king. Any other store just doesn't matter". Look, there is life outside of just Walmart. They are truly 2 completely different types of stores. Sure, some of the items they sell are the exact same, but you can find those same items at a random grocery store. Walmart and Target offer many different things, especially when it comes to the clothing section and furniture section. Different looks, different feels. Don't you want more than just one look to choose from?

Too Small

"Amarillo isn't really that big of a place, so Target just isn't their speed. It's too trendy". That's a real quote from one of our friends who used to live here. I mean, what? We're no Dallas, but we're big enough that we deserve to have more than one. What's the hold up?

Is Amarillo the most trendy city? No, we're not, but we're pretty much the biggest town between Denver and Dallas so...please explain to me how Target is too "trendy" because I don't see it. Maybe it's because there have been Target stores all over the place in every city I've lived in, but I guess I don't see it as this super fancy store.

I want a couple more Target stores here personally, a Super Target would be amazing. So which one is it Amarillo? Tell me why we hate Target so much here. Tell me how you really feel, maybe we can get the ball rolling on another location.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
