Delays This Morning On I-40/I-27 Interchange

The i-40/I-27 Interchange has been fun to navigate for Amarillo drivers of late.  Today it got fairly detoury.

Crews working on the direct connection project had to detour traffic earlier today while crews progressed with work at the Interchange eastbound I-40 connecting to southbound I-27.  The area was closed and traffic detoured for most of the morning.  I-40 traffic attempting to access southbound I-27 was detoured north around the work zone into downtown Amarillo where drivers were able to reconnect with I-27.  Crews also had to close the southbound I-27 frontage road adjacent to the direct connector while work progressed.

The closure provided crews the safety they required to pour the concrete bridge deck on the new Interchange direct connector.

Although the roadway was reopened by noon it is still a prudent idea to provide extra time when you are going through this area for the foreseeable future as other closures and detours may be necessary.
