News recently came out about a recall of fresh cut fruit that's sold at Walmart in nine states. That includes Texas.

The reason for the recall is concerns over Listeria. The fruit is the Country Fresh "Freshness Guaranteed" fruit and includes their fresh cut watermelon, apples, grapes, mangos, pineapples, cantaloupe.

The fruit is marked with a best if used by date between Oct 3 and Oct 11.

Reports are that Walmart has already removed the recalled fruit from their store shelves. In case they missed one, when you get to the register you will be notified the product has been recalled when it is scanned.

Listeria can cause high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, diarrhea, nausea and it is incredibly dangerous to pregnant women. It can cause miscarriages or stillbirths.

The recall is a precautionary measure. During a recent routine inspection, Listeria monocytogenes were detected on equipment in an area near where the fruit is packaged.

The recall is a voluntary one that was recently expanded by Country Fresh.

Looking at the FDA information regarding the recall of the "Freshness Guaranteed" fruit, it includes a lot. The fruit trays, clear plastic containers of sliced fruit, and the seasonal blends.

If you have recently purchased some of these items and have them sitting in the fridge, be sure to look at the best if used by date to see if it matches the dates listed on the FDA's website.
