American Airlines Jet Hits Bird, Returns To DFW

GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) — An American Airlines jet bound for Seattle safely returned to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport after a bird strike.

American spokeswoman Andrea Huguely (HEWG'-lee) said Wednesday that nobody was hurt. Passengers were put on another plane and arrived Tuesday night at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Huguely says Flight 1017 was carrying 182 passengers and a six-person crew Tuesday afternoon. Huguely says the bird strike involved the left engine and that the plane returned to DFW airport. She had no details on damage to the twin-engine jet, which was taken out of service for inspection.

The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/19iuUVp ) reports the passengers included several Dallas City Council members heading to a National League of Cities conference. Councilman Philip Kingston says the left engine apparently hit the bird and was vibrating.
